Ok, well, not really but we did have a minor scare within the first 5 minutes of our vacation.
As mentioned, Blitzen loves the water and can actually swim quite confidently in deep water. Dancer, not so much.
In the end, Andrew and I brought just Dancer for a day of Poconos fun. We drove up, got settled in the rental house and headed to the community pool which had a waterslide. Woohoo!
Well, woohoo until Bltizen slides down and the Dancer follows. Down she goes, grabbing onto her sister and they both sink like stones. I was paying attention and saw it all coming. But I still was not as quick as the awesome teenage life guard who was in the water dragging Dancer to the side before I even got the edge of the pool. It just took seconds, as it always does. Dancer was deeply embarrassed, Blitzen was completely freaked. ‘Dancer tried to drown me!’ she kept saying. Ok, out of the pool we go and we end up at the, you guessed it, water park. Because one near drowning isn’t gonna slow us down!
The girls had a super time and were worn out. Yay!
Dancer slept on the entire drive home, Blitzen fell asleep relatively close to her bedtime and woke up cheerful in spite of the fact that Dancer had gone home. More friends arrived and adventures continued.
Near drowning

holy buckets! yay teenage lifeguard (who can now have the confidence of a real save). funny how kids who don’t know how to swim will do stuff like that. I once had to jump in at a pool party because a non swimmer dropped a toy into the pool and just jumped in after it. one little splash. one bigger splash, and straight down. forgot to kick of my shoes and wrecked them. oh well.
